Gas storage: Europe's winter buffer
Europe injects gas through summer and draws it down from November, so the fill level going into October sets the tone for winter contract pricing. When stocks run ahead of the seasonal norm, forward premiums soften; when they lag, every cold snap prices in harder. The UK holds far less storage relative to demand than the big continental markets, which is why NBP prices track the continental fill rate so closely.
