Purely Energy is now a B Corp. Learn what this certification means and how it reflects our commitment to responsible energy.
Exciting News...
Something exciting has been happening behind the scenes at Purely. Our team recently completed a rigorous assessment by a globally recognised organisation… and we passed!
Gaining our B Corp certification means that we have joined a global community dedicated to meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Our company’s goal has always been to create a positive impact on our workforce, community, and customers by driving sustainable and ethical business practices. Becoming B Corp certified is a testament to our commitment to this cause.
What is B Corp?
B Corp certification is run by B Lab, a non-profit that has been assessing businesses since 2006. The 'B' stands for Benefit. To certify, a company has to show that it benefits all its stakeholders, workers, customers, suppliers, community and environment, not just its shareholders.
That's the real difference between a B Corp and a traditional business. Most companies are structured to put profit first. A B Corp commits, legally and publicly, to balancing profit with purpose. Certification isn't a marketing badge you can buy. Every claim is checked, scored and published, and companies that fall short don't certify.
There are now thousands of certified B Corps worldwide, including familiar names across food, finance and retail. In the UK, the movement has grown quickly, but energy consultancies with the certification remain rare. That's part of why we wanted it: our industry doesn't have the strongest reputation for transparency, and we'd like to be part of changing that.
How did we do it?
June 2024 -We began our B Corp journey. We reviewed 166 questions on our company’s key areas and began reflecting on company policies, actions, and documentation.
December 2024 -We submitted our B Corp responses and undertook an initial validation of certain areas with a B Corp member.
June 2025 -We underwent our validation interview, during which specific aspects of our company values and actions were reviewed. A few weeks later, we received our ‘pass’ and accreditation.
Achieving B Corp certification was no small feat. All departments across the company played an active part in developing aspects surrounding the assessment. We needed a pass rate of 80 or above and successfully achieved 87.6, which is 72% higher than the average business!
Our impact score, area by area:

Governance
Impact Score: 21.0
This covers our mission, ethics, and accountability, how decisions get made and who they serve.

Workers
Impact Score: 30.4
Our strongest area, covering pay, benefits, training, and wellbeing. We're proud of this one. A consultancy is only ever as good as its people, and this score reflects how we treat ours.

Environment
Impact Score: 6.9
Our footprint as an office-based business is modest, but this area also measures what we're doing to reduce it, and it's where some of our biggest opportunities for improvement sit.

Customers
Impact Score: 3.7
This measures whether our services themselves create positive impact for the people who buy them.

Community
Impact Score: 25.3

Covering our local impact, supplier relationships, and charitable giving. See our full report here
It’s not over yet. Achieving our B Corp certification marks an important first step in our journey towards becoming a true advocate for sustainability. Since the company started in 2021, this has been an aspirational achievement. To find out more about where it all started for us, check out our blog post here. There is still plenty of progress to be made, and we’ll be reassessed for recertification every three years to ensure we are continuously improving.
What does this mean for our customers?
In practical terms, working with a B Corp means working with a business that has opened itself up to scrutiny. Our score is public. Our practices have been independently verified. And recertification isn't optional: we'll be reassessed every three years, against standards that get tougher each cycle, to prove we're still improving.
For our customers, that translates into how we behave day to day. Transparent advice. Honest pricing. No auto-renewing you into contracts you didn't choose. The certification doesn't create those standards, we've always held them, but it does mean someone independent has checked.
